The challenges of biodiversity conservation in rural areas: Experience of the Ecological Corridor of the Kahuzi Bièga National Park in DRC: CoalitionWILD’s EXCELerator and EXL_I 2022 Programme.

In 2022, in collaboration and with the financial support of Coalition WILD, our Project Officer conducted a study on the analysis and understanding of the challenges of biodiversity conservation in rural Congo, with the ecological corridor of the Kahuzi Biega National Park as a specific case.

This study covered the three groups of the Nindja chiefdom, including Luhago, Irhegabarhonyi and Ihembe, all of which border the ecological corridor of the Kahuzi Biega National Park in the Ninjda chiefdom. A research project that allowed us to understand the challenges of biodiversity conservation in rural Congo after the colonial period, when several protected areas were created in the DRC without the consent of the rural populations who depend on them.

However, the full study will be published soon, but if needed the final report of the project can be found here.
